Dakota Sage (Artemisia Ludoviciana)

This sage, which is collected from the hills and prairies of the Dakotas, is not a true Sage but rather an Artemisia. It is highly prized and used by the Plains Indians. It is sometimes called white sage, grey sage, grandfather sage or by it's common name, "Cudweed Sagewort".

The Cheyenne are said to call it "man sage" as opposed to another Artemisia (Artemisia Frigida) which is called "woman sage".

The Indians use it to treat headaches, coughs, stomach disorders and more. In addition, because of its pleaant scent, it has been used to deodorize shoes and feet, made into pillows and burned to ward off mosquitos.

Used alone or in a mixture, this sage creates a sober ambiance which aids in prayer and meditation.

The sage we offer is harvested by a Sioux family from which we buy it directly and with whom we have a excellent ties.
